Agency for Toxic Disease Substance Disease Registry (ATSDR) ToxFAQs
The ATSDR ToxFAQs are summary sheets about hazardous substances excerpted from the ATSDR Toxicological Profiles and Public Health Statements. Answers are provided to the most frequently asked questions about exposure to hazardous substances found around hazardous waste sites and human health effects. While some fact sheets pertain to pesticides, most of the ToxFAQ sheets pertain to other hazardous chemicals.

Includes information on the CA-DPR, consumer fact sheets, current publications, and links to technical information on pesticides, and the California Environmental Protection Agency.

Chemical Carcinogenesis Research Information System (CCRIS) Database
Sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), CCRIS contains scientifically evaluated data derived from carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, tumor promotion, and tumor inhibition tests on thousands of chemicals.

e.Hormone, maintained by the Center for Bioenvironmental Research of Tulane and Xavier Universities, includes consumer-oriented educational information on environmental estrogens.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) New York State
The EPA Region 2 includes New York New Jersey, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and 7 Tribal Nations. Provides information on: program Information on water, air, hazardous waste, superfund and emergency response systems; Environmental Databases including Geographic Information Systems, NY/NJ Harbor decontamination; Envirofacts with links to EPA databases; Regional Initiatives including the Long Island Sound Program; and links to National EPA information.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program
The EDSP web site presents a discussion of the endocrine system and how certain chemicals can affect it. Also includes an overview of the proposed screening program, with links to detailed sections on each program element.

EXTOXNET
EXTOXNET is cooperative effort of University of California, Davis, Oregon State University, Michigan State University, and Cornell University. Information provided by this database includes discussions of toxicological issues of concern, toxicology newsletters, other resources for toxicology information, toxicology fact sheets, Pesticide Information Profiles (PIPs) (see below for a separate web site), and Toxicology Information Briefs (TIBs).

EXTOXNET: Pesticide Information Profiles
Extoxnet's Pesticide Information Profiles provide information on the health and environmental effects of hundreds of pesticides. (The information does not in any way replace or supersede the information on the pesticide product labeling or other regulatory requirements.) The profiles, which are a part of the EXTOXNET database, are searchable by keywords and partial words.

Geographic Information System Format on Agricultural Chemical Use, Land Use, and Cropping Practices in the United States
This is an electronic version of U.S. Geological Survey Water-Resources Investigations Report 94-4176. Includes geographic maps of the United States with estimated annual county-level use of selected herbicides. (Note: the information is based on 1989 usage levels).

HazDat: Hazardous Substances Database
This database, maintained by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, provides access to information on the release of hazardous substances from Superfund sites or from emergency events and on the effects of hazardous substances on the health of human populations.

Homeowner Pesticide Information
A wealth of information on common pesticides for the homeowner. It provides a variety of fact sheets and access to other online resources. This site is sponsored by Clemson University.

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)
IARC was established to coordinate and conduct research on the causes of human cancer, and to develop scientific strategies for cancer control.

International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC): Evaluations
The Overall Evaluations of Carcinogenicity to Humans contains all compounds evaluated by IARC to date, according to the type of hazard posed and to the type of exposure. Where appropriate, chemical abstract numbers are given [in square brackets].

Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS)
The IRIS online database was created by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). It contains EPA carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risk and regulatory information on hundreds of chemicals. The risk assessment data have been scientifically reviewed by groups of EPA scientists and represent EPA consensus.

National Ag Safety Database (NASD)
The NASD database is supported by National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and provides a wealth of information on prevention of exposure while working with pesticides. The database includes information on regulations and guidelines on personal protective equipment.

National Pesticide Information Center
The National Pesticide Information Center is funded by the EPA. It provides comprehensive information to the public on specific pesticide chemicals, including toxicological and medical information, via a telephone helpline and a website.

National Toxicology Program (NTP) Abstracts of Published Studies
The National Toxicology Program (NTP) has compiled health information on over 2000 chemicals. This web site contains links to all abstracts. Abstracts can be searched by keywords.

The National Toxicology Program's (NTP) Annual Report on Carcinogens
The Annual Report on Carcinogens (ARC), as compiled by the NTP discusses individual substances, mixtures of chemicals, or exposures associated with technological processes which are known to be carcinogens or which may reasonably be anticipated to be carcinogens. Includes links to searchable lists of known and anticipated carcinogens.

New York State Attorney General's Environmental Protection Bureau
The New York State (NYS) Attorney General's Environmental Protection Bureau lists reports and press clippings on this site. They include reports on groundwater contamination from pesticides on Long Island golf courses, pest management in NYS hospitals, the safety and alternatives to pesticides used in the home and garden, and reducing the risk of pesticides used in schools.

Office of Occupational Health and Safety (OSHA) Fact Sheets
The OSHA fact sheets cover many topics including exposure to ethylene oxide, farm safety, OSHA Emergency Hot-line, OSHA employee workplace rights and responsibilities, occupational exposure to formaldehyde, and occupational exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories. Some fact sheets available in Spanish.

This EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) web site includes links to a variety of information on pesticides, and toxic substances.

Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Pesticide Database
The PAN Pesticide Database is an online collection of pesticide data providing detailed information thousands of pesticide active ingredients, breakdown products, and related chemicals. The database also contains information on more than 100,000 formulated pesticide products (current and historic registrations) from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Where available, the database provides information on toxicity, regulatory status, aquatic ecotoxicity, and general identification information, including an extensive list of synonyms.

Silent Spring Institute
The Silent Spring Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to researching the links between women's health and the environment. This web site includes information about the Cape Cod Breast Cancer and Environment Study and the Newton, MA Breast Cancer Study.

U.S. Geological Service in New York State: Reports, Fact Sheets, Articles, and Abstracts
Two fact sheets available are #FS-237-96 Pesticides in Surface Waters of the Hudson River Basin-Mohawk River Subbasin, and #FS-238-96 Pesticides in Surface Waters of the Hudson River Basin, New York and Adjacent States. In addition, a report on "Distribution of DDT, Chlordane and total PCB's in bed sediments in the Hudson River Basin, 1997" is available.

U.S. Geological Service: Programs in New York
Describes studies on the water quality of streams in New York State. Includes maps of the NYC reservoir system.
